Hi all,
i supported WFTO project and I hope game will be awesome. However in the meantime I decided to refresh old DK series, I even try to run my DK2 (I found my old special box edition) at Win7 - it failed, then I try at Linux&Wine - it failed too. So I gave up.

I search the internet and found few similar games.

First at all - do you know that EA Games manage DK brand right now and they let TQ Digital (some kind of Chinese game developer) to create Dungeon Keeper World as a MMO game? You can download it but I have no idea how to run it: http://dk.91.com/

Then I found this - Dungeon -> http://www.dungeons-game.com/ and there is standalone add on with Multiplayer mode called Dungeons – The Dark Lord.

Dungeons @ Steam -> http://store.steampowered.com/app/57650/
Dungeons – The Dark Lord @ Steam-> http://store.steampowered.com/app/200550/

Anyone of you played those games? Is it worth?

Thanks,
Alth

If you want to refresh your DK skill or it's just a nostalgia, go DK1 or DK2. All games you mention are simply too different.
You may consider getting Keeper FX for DK1 and custom maps/campaign for DK2. Also get 1.51, not 1.7 or 1.8, AI is the best there.

somewhere is a topic on how to run dk2 on win 7 ... Theres a tutorial posted there that should help you running it.
Dungeons is a bad game its as easy as that i paid full 50€ on this game and its really, really bad even in the things it wants to be and it doesnt want to be DK (even if the ad may say otherwise)

I beta tested it and all I can say developers simply turned it into underground farmland. There was only one test build where your creatures could compete against heroes on equal level and traps did some real damage, killing pleased heroes on their way back and then it changed. From what I heard it didn't change much - your dungeon still gets crawled by Heroes who do whatever they want and you just sit and chase them one by one. Boring.

To be honest, I don't think Dungeons is really that bad. Only: It is nothing DK (beside there are dungeons ...). It sure has some flaws, but I consider it a nice game in its own rights. If it was worth buying at full price - probably not. I shot a new Dungeons Gold on Amazon for 20€, found that ok.
To give it a try, there are demos on Steam, too, not only the full versions.

But DON'T consider it DK!!1eleven

What about Dungeon Keeper World, anybody tested it?
I don't think you can even launch it, let alone read it, unless you are based in China. Though there are a few videos of it on youtube, which make it look... well judge for yourself:
The dungeon gameplay starts around 1:13
and surface gameplay:
To be honest, I don't think Dungeons is really that bad. Only: It is nothing DK (beside there are dungeons ...).
I get where you are coming from, the problem is that coming from a Dungeon Keeper background it is hard for me to not make comparisons to it when playing Dungeons. Though I talked to someone who has never played a Dungeon Keeper game, and he found Dungeons to be pretty good, just that is lacked a lot of replayability.
I'll admit that I started it up played it for 3 days, and concluded that it wasn't for me. It isn't anything like Dungeon Keeper, so if you are happy with that you might have a good time with it.

Everything that everyone is saying I think is completely true, if you want a DK remake, Dungeons really isn't it.

However, I do highly recommend to anyone who hasn't yet tried Dungeons to download the demo off Steam. That's definitely the best way to see if you are going to like it or not.

Good luck Althenor!

I was so dissapointed from this game, I dont know how the synchro is in english but I hated that advisor the first time I heard him.
Digging is painfully slow because every one of these fat goblins has to crawl his way to you to give you one piece of gold he found in the dirt, until hes able to dig another tile. So youre forced to guard rooms with your char until theyre done-boooring.
The monsters are just cannonfodder for entertaining the heroes. You cant send them around, however enemy dungeonlords will send you waves of monsters to your heart. Your power grows with placing decorations, believe me you need tons of them, and after 2 hours of playing and dying on the map you just drown a room in 5000 candleholders out of frustration so you can kill that fucking heart of your enemy.
At the beginning of a campaign, your movement actions will be very restricted because every little mage or archer can shoot you to death with 3 or 2 blows. (they can shoot arrows and magic missilies arround corners and through walls, escaping is impossible)

There is a repeating routine,:
1. destroy objects without making noises or heros will flood the room, which means you destroy a barrel and run out of the room to wait 3 minutes. keeping you busy for an HOUR to destroy a cellers furniture- A true villian you are!

2. Fight an enemy dungeonmaster= run and die, hit and run, being shot by magic homing arrows and placing as much decoration in rooms as you can. Until you finally destroyed this fucking selfrecovering heart. (did I mentioned the respawning, selfrecovering heartguards with shitloads of hps?)

3. Die

4. Escort monsters to a certain point, the challenge is not to protect the monsters, it is to sustain mr. sidekicks "jokes". If they wanted to present people our famous german humour they did a good job...

5. Die

6. Survive against hero waves. Its like fighting against an enemy dungeonlord just easier and without a lord. Ignore the heros desires or you will need ages to win. just place as many monsterspawners in a room close to your heart as you can, keep spawning your heartguard and wait an hour.

And thats all you will do during the game.
To be fair, after some hotfixes and a mod which allows you to move monsters the game is playable but nothing I would buy or play again, just ignore it and play dk.

oh I didn't know they went so far with the chinese version, I thought they abandoned it ! Is it still alive? Is there really people playing this ? such a shame they had to do that !
Makes me think of the dragonball z MMO.

Dungeons is a very good game IMHO if you don't expect DK (not DK, doesn't play like DK), there are a couple mods out there that makes the game really different like the fact that you can move your creatures str like and more enjoyable.
But since people criticized it so much, nobody ever really started to mod it :(
Well, I think the game is great and fun ! It's a bit repetitive at times yes but there's some great ideas and having a main villain boss of the dungeon is fun IMHO.
It's definitely not DK but don't kill it because of that ! it's an original game and I was always one of it's defender because I really liked it ! (plus I like the humour in the game too).

I would like to say that Dungeons doesn't deserve all of the criticism it gets for not being like Dungeon Keeper, but...
They had to have known that people would see that and be reminded of the DK1 opening. So it is partly theirs, or their marketing teams, fault for people getting the wrong end of the stick.

I spoke with the Devs on their forums and it's totally the fault of their Marketing Team :( (the dev team is really nice and fun to talk to)

The devs were quite mads that the marketing team did not even know what they were sellinng (or trying to sell) to people, they just jumped on the cliche : it's a DK clone to attract all the fans of DK, which made a lot of people angry.

The addon was sold better but the damage of the 1st one still stayed in the mind of the consumer of the 1st one.

And honnestly, for steam sales, you oftenly see both games being sold together for 5bucks or less, so what's to complain about ? The price keeps dropping every so often and the devs don't get anything from it.

About DK, take a look at GOG.com, you can get them for 2 or 3 bucks each and they work under windows 7.
the only problem I have is that they still don't support widescreen and it's a bummer for me since I play on my laptop on widescreen ! (well, DK 2 can work in widescreen if you do the correct thing but it makes text disappear but DK 2 is definitely not my favorite)

I liked dungeons but it was not a spiritual successor to DK as it had been portrayed in some marketing! It was a great dungeon theme park style game though and not without merit!
However I found games like Startopia and Evil Genius to be a lot closer to DK so perhaps give them a look?

You can get DK2 to work on Vista/Win 7 not sure about Win 8 though, if you google it youll find a full guide as to what to do! Also you can still get hold of the patches to add the jack in the box trap etc.
