Possible Alternate to Triggers

Since adding triggered events seems to be difficult to add to the map editor, I have a couple alternative ideas which might be easier to implement. They involve bridges and rock tiles. What if a bridge could be made to appear over a chasm after a time set in the editor? Alternatively, what if a special rock tile were made which, when set to a timer, either converts to brimstone, or simply vanishes or changes to a regular type of dirt tile? These options would allow certain areas of a map to be closed off until the timer expires, preventing the player from expanding too quickly, or be overrun immediately by an enemy force. If would also allow for more exploration type maps
