The hero campaing just sounds awesome and I hope it is the next flex goal, I could happily go for a prequel with say a hero falling and becoming the Overlord or been say the hero being in a sequel and trying to survive in a blighted land as we the overlords put it all to the torch and monsters are everywhere OR it could play at the same time chronologically as the dungeon campaign where we see both sides of a major war as both sides gain victories and defeats.

The best way to describe the final idea is warcraft 3 with Human campaign, you get to enjoy them and there lore but at the end the very land and people you fight for get decimated which would probably fit the tone for this game as it is mainly focussed on the overlords and building dungeons full of evil creatures but hey who does not like suffering heroes making dark/harsh decisions to survive?

I had an idea for the campaign for the heroes is that they are sent to destroy a keeper when suddenly they get trapped underground and the campaign could follow there slow descent into madness before finally the main protagonist of the heroes commits suicide

(like in Star trek voyager when janeway made an alliance with the borg). yes, I know, I was a trekkie, sue me!
We trekkies must stand together !

Also good and would be happy if things went down like this, you see when you have a villain protagonist anything the hero does can be interesting no matter how dark/desperate or uncalled for as the sheer scale of evil they are up against always justifies it or at least makes you understand why they would do this (my warcraft 3 analogy had Arthas the Human hero massacre a city full of living Humans as they were all infected with tainted grain which would turn them all into undead so he felt he had no time to look for alternative ideas) so an awesome hero story will be laughably easy to make.

Considering all the moddability War for the Overworld will contain I suppose none of us should really worry as we could create these ourselves depending on how user-friendly the world builder will be.

I am so looking forward to using it, making maps is easier when they're mostly undug earth for the most part (depending on your map) :D

Why not to keep it simple and just have the campaign mirror the evil one? As the underlord you fight against the empire to spread the evil( yes "THE.Evil" as generic evil
Is too mainstream for a true underlord). As the empire in the hero campaign you fight the evil underlords empire to vanquish the evil. So for the underlord campaign - the empire is big, the underlords empire is small. Through the game he builds it. In the hero Campaign the empire is small and fights enormous empire of the underlord. The good empire grows bigger through the game. You could have missions such as "secure this or build that, gather X amount of gold as the growing empire needs it"

Sure not as fun as a prequel, but simply to do and still could offer deeper insight as to how the underlord came to be or how the empire rose. For a plot twist the ending of the hero campaign could be the beginning of the evil campaign and vise versa for a serious mind f... A Paradox.
The ending cutscene could show as the heroes are victorious and the heart explodes the underlord in the final
Moments casts possession on a minion( the victorious hero would be better, but a bot cliche) which slowly backs away from the room and leaves. then we are shown a dank cave with the creature/hero carrying a torch , coughing and falling to his knees as the corruption spreads in his body. He drops the torch and the camera pans away from him, we hear screams and ripping sounds, we see it as a shadow play on the cave wall (or te camera focuses on the torches fire) then a splat of blood falls on the torch and the flame goes out. We star seeing a faint red glow, it glows brighter as the camera slowly turns to it, then we hear a beat and we see that the body of the creature was transformed into a pile of goo wich slowly takes te form of the dungeon heart. the camera pans out and we see as the glow and the heart get smaller and smaller, ill the darkness engulfs it. the camera pans out even more and we see that it shows as staring in the eye of diggy(imp) the camera pans out and we see our familiar dungeon heart room which was the first level of the game in the evil campaign. The advisor goes"welcome back underlord".

In the evil campaign, when you win, the cutscene shows how a group of heroes manages to survive(the son of the emperor/hero). Then we are shown how the survivors plan to defeat the underlord. Camwra pans out and we find out, that they are in the first level of the hero campaign.
also and meaning with "the balance can't be broken/ never ending battle of good vs evil " etc etc

Really love this cyclical idea.

Must have missed this post, somehow. That idea also works. :D
